Note

The web clippings section of my site is quite new and as such pretty empty. As this archive grows I will add some additional tools for sorting and browsing these clippings but for now there's the monthly archive.

I've been outside. It's overrated.   "In terms of the traditional target age/content metrics, Outside is remarkably high in sex, violence and challenges to traditional values, despite the strong child-focussed marketing it receives. ... Children injured playing Outside are usually comforted by parents, and soon encouraged to go Outside again; this leads to the conclusion that somehow Outside has escaped any and all of the usual moralizing that surrounds the videogaming industry." Spain Battles Desertification   The United Nations estimates that six percent of the territory of Spain, the most arid country in Europe, has already been irreversibly damaged. The environmental group Greenpeace believes Spain's climate has begun to "Africanise". # 2007/11/11

The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (Trailer)   The movie Dr. Seuss would have made, and in fact did. The trailer reminds me of Kubrick and the Coen Brothers trying to make a children's movie. Saddens the heart to think of the schlock that's produced in his name today. # 2007/08/29

Pimientos de Padron   As an American living in Spain it's funny to read of an American seeking out the food I can find in nearly every tapas bar when I am here looking for a jar of JIF Creamy Peanut butter. :) # 2007/08/28
Transmission — Free Mac OS X Bittorrent Client   In March I bought a license for Xtorrent based solely on David Watanabe's record with Acquisition but today I am seriously questioning the purchase as it languishes, still feature-poor and now paling in comparison to free open source alternatives. # 2007/08/28
Letters Reveal Mother Teresa Tormented by Questions of Faith   "I love that these letters have come out. Too many believe that faith means no questions. If Mother Teresa can question her faith, everyone can." Derek commented. — I couldn't agree more. # 2007/08/27
